Co-organisers

You will want 1–3 other people to be your core organising team. These will be the people who work with you between repair café events, sharing the workload of administration and planning. You and your co-organisers will work on tasks like:

  • finding and booking venues

  • managing and engaging with other volunteers

  • promoting the cafe

  • finding and applying for grants

  • building relationships with donors and sponsors

  • collecting and recording repair data

  • developing a risk management plan

  • complying with health, safety and other legal requirements

SEE Change organisers tell us that a good organising team is the hardest part of your crew to build. Co-organisers should be people who:

  • have skills and networks that complement yours

  • have good interpersonal and people-management skills

  • can commit time regularly and over an extended period

  • care about having a repair café in your community

You might have some people in mind already. Otherwise, we have some suggestions on our page about recruiting volunteers.

Once you’ve run a few events, you’ll likely identify some people among your support crew with the skills and motivation to take on more responsibility.
