Support crew

During your repair cafés, most of the focus will be on the repairers. But behind the scenes, your support crew will be the people who keep everything moving. This is a full-time job; nobody should try to be a repairer and support crew at the same time.

Depending on the number of repairers, each event will need 3-5 people in the support crew. They will:

  • help with set-up and pack down

  • greet and welcome visitors

  • explain how the process works and any policies visitors need to agree to

  • take details of items to be repaired

  • match people with repairers

  • collect feedback and take photos of repairs

Support crew volunteers should be people who:

  • are friendly, approachable and good communicators

  • have good attention to detail and can stick to a process

  • can handle standing and moving around frequently for several hours at a time

  • are flexible and can take on different jobs depending on what’s needed

Your support crew will likely be a mixture of people from the organising team and other volunteers.
