Plastic Free July is an international movement that encourages people to refuse single-use plastics. It has been around since 2011 and is run by the Plastic Free Foundation based in Perth, Australia.

On 1 July 2026, it is aiming to set a world record for the most people refusing single-use plastic in one day. It is easy to participate:

· Before 1 July 2026, decide what plastic item you want to refuse · On 1 July 2026, complete the pledge at www.plasticfreejuly.org

· During July 2026, develop new habits that help ensure you can refuse the single-use plastic e.g. getting your morning coffee with your reusable coffee cup instead of the single-use cup.

Join us for morning tea on 1 July 2026

The SEE Change WasteLess group has arranged a morning tea on Wednesday 1 July 2026 from 10:30am to 11:00am at the Canberra Museum and Gallery (CMAG) Cafe, Civic Square, London Circuit, Civic. We have chosen CMAG as they use reusable cups and crockery for dine in customers and have a mug library for take away coffees, something we would like to see all Canberra cafes offer.

At the morning tea, you can:

· Get some ideas on how to replace single-use plastics with reusables

· Complete your pledge – we will take a group photo and load it to the Plastic Free July site, and we have reusable cloth bread bags to give away to the first people who make a pledge

· Meet others who are pledging to refuse single-use plastics

· Purchase your tea or coffee from CMAG.
